Dale Carnegie Training and LEAN - Mark Lovegrove General Manager Allied Industrial Engineering - November 2009
In formulating Allied Industrial Engineering's vision to provide World Class Solutions to the Toughest Heavy Engineering Challenges, we recognised the need to further develop the leadership within our organisation. Having robust systems that meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, and top Health and Safety systems that have recently gained us Tertiary Level in the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme, together with modern plant and machinery, would not be enough in itself for us to achieve our vision. As we began our drive of Continuous Improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles and tools, we needed an on-going people development plan for key leadership staff to help them become better leaders. We had tried a number of one-off training programmes, but the behaviour change that resulted from these days was not really noticeable. After investigating the 8 week Dale Carnegie Corporate programme, I decided to enrol myself to see first hand what the benefits would be, along with two of our Supervisors. After having been through the programme, and having witnessed first hand the changes in the two supervisors, along with the additional skills I have learned to become a better leader, I have no doubt that we have gained real value far in excess of the direct cost of the course. Continuous Improvement is necessary for all businesses to succeed in the current economy, and Dale Carnegie's programme does create real change in people's core competencies of confidence, communication, human relations, leadership and attitude - helping drive the cultural change necessary to implement lean tools into any organisation."
